Company Updates: Updated Hours / Credit Card Fees

By Carlton Hoyt, 20 August 2025

Hi everyone! We have three small company updates to announce:

First, our hours of operation are changing slightly. As we no longer ship to Europe (or anywhere outside the US and Canada), we are shifting the start of our workday back slightly. Instead of opening at 8:30 am US ET Monday through Thursday, we'll open at 9 am.

Second, if you add over $10,000 worth of items to your cart, you will see a "credit card processing fee" added to your order. Some background to explain this policy decision:

  • High-price items often have lower margins for us.
  • High-price items are also often large items and ship freight, which we pay for as part of our free shipping policy.
  • Credit card fees can be a substantial amount of money on large purchases. There's no such thing as a bulk discount of credit card fees.

As our credit card fees are currently a touch above 2.5%, we're passing on the 2.5% on large orders. Don't want to pay the fee? We hear you! You can contact us and pay by bank transfer or [for qualifying organizations] place a purchase order and there won't be any fee.

Third, we will also be charging fees on invoices with net terms (i.e. not prepaid) that are paid by credit card, regardless of order value. It's not something we want to have to do, but some organizations are exploitative about it and will opportunistically cost us 2.5% on every invoice so their credit card companies give them 1% cash back. We're closing that loophole.

Don't hesitate to contact us should you have any questions.
